Born in 1969 to John and Max Roberts in a town called Lydenburg in South Africa. My dad was a minister in the Penticostal Protestant Church. Some of my fondest memories of him is waking up at night hearing him praying in his study. Words cannot describe how safe that made me feel as a young boy.

I started school at HF Verwoerd Primary School in Parys. In those days a pastor in the PPC didn’t stay very long with one congragation, so we moved around quite a bit. Strangly we ended back in Parys by the end of my school career.

After school I studied Mechanical Engineering at the Potchefstroom University of Christian Higher Education. During that time I met my future wife, Annatjie. We got married in 1993 after I have finished my degree and lived in Vanderbijlpark untill 1999. In 1998 I felt that God called us into fulltime ministry. I left my job at Iscor steel factory and we went to Syndey, Australia, to study a the Hillsong College from 1999 till 2000.

My father died of cancer at the end of 1999. We were fortunate enough to spend his last 19 days on earth with him. In that same year some friends of mine started a church in Port Elizabeth. We visited them in December 1999, and from the moment we arrived in Port Elizabeth we knew God was calling us to this new church, Impetus Gemeente. After finishing our diplomas in ministry at Hillsong my wife and I moved to Port Elizabeth in 2001 to join Impetus. Impetus could not give us any compensation for the first one and a half year, and many of our friends, family, our previous church (River Of Life in Vanderbijlpark) and Hillsong College supported us during this time.

Maneesha Faith was born on 16 November 2001, and that moment was the closest I have ever felt to God when she came out of her mom’s tummy. She is truly a blessing to us, intelligent and witty. Her brother, Dillon was born on 11 February 2005. He is extremely intelligent and very strong willed. Here are some pics…

I am currently on the fulltime staff of Impetus Gemeente as … Uhm… Don’t know really if I have a title. 😆 Well I do the music, service planning, keep an eye on the decor, and a lot of othr stuff. I guess our ministry team functions kind of in a post-modern chaotic way, but hey, it works for us.

My loves… God. Jesus. My wife. My kids. The church. Music. Cappuccino. Guitars. Wine. Good food. Friends. Philosophy (not that I’m good at it).

Hates… Extreme fundamentalism. My sinful nature that trips me so often.

  8. Hello Joshua,
I stopped visiting A Little Leaven a while back. Our family are going to see the High School Musical 3 movie tonight and then I will be able to comment if I think there are any themes that can be used for getting a bible study started. I don’t have a problem using secular movies or any art form to point people back to the bible as I find that when we do that people take more notice of God speaking through things around them as well as how the truth of the Gospel can impact their lives.

    Thanks for visiting.
